Selling to HomeLoop vs Listing: Which Suits You?
By HomeLoop Team5 min read
If you have furniture, appliances, electronics or other items you no longer need, HomeLoop gives you two ways to pass them on: sell them to us, or list them with us. Both start in the same place, where you can sell or list your items with HomeLoop, but they work differently. This guide explains the tradeoffs so you can choose the one that fits your situation.
Option 1: Sell to HomeLoop
When you sell to HomeLoop, we buy the item from you directly. We then refurbish it where needed, give it a condition tag, and resell it in our store.
How it works
- You share details and photos of the item.
- We review it and make you an offer.
- If you accept, we arrange collection and you're paid for the item.
What you get
- Speed. You don't wait for a buyer to come along.
- Certainty. Once you accept, the sale is agreed. There's no risk that the item sits unsold.
- Less effort. No enquiries, no viewings, no negotiations with strangers.
The tradeoff
Our offer reflects the fact that we take on the cost of collection, refurbishment and the risk of reselling. That means a direct sale price is usually lower than what you might get if you waited for an individual buyer.
Option 2: List it with HomeLoop
When you list with HomeLoop, you keep ownership of the item while we show it in our store and handle the sale for you.
How it works
- You submit the item's details, photos and your asking price.
- We publish it in our store, marked as "Unchecked by our experts", because our team hasn't inspected it.
- The listing runs for a 30-day period.
- We handle buyer enquiries, negotiation and delivery.
- After the item is delivered to the buyer, you're paid the sale price minus our commission.
What you get
- A possibly higher price, because you're selling closer to what a buyer is willing to pay.
- Privacy. Your contact details are kept private. Buyers deal with us, not with you.
- No viewings at home for you to manage with strangers.
- Delivery handled, so you don't have to arrange transport for the buyer.
The tradeoff
- You wait. The item may sell quickly or may take most of the listing period.
- No guarantee of a sale. If no buyer is found within the 30 days, the item hasn't sold.
- Commission is deducted from the sale price before you're paid.
- Payment comes after delivery, not when the listing goes live.
- Buyers see it as unchecked, and there's no warranty on unchecked items. Honest descriptions and clear photos matter even more.

Which option suits you?
Selling to HomeLoop may suit you if:
- You're moving soon and need the item gone by a fixed date.
- Your lease is ending and you can't wait to see if a buyer appears.
- You'd rather have a known amount now than a possibly higher amount later.
- You have several items and want to clear them in one go.
Listing with HomeLoop may suit you if:
- You're not in a hurry and can wait up to 30 days.
- The item is in good shape and you think it can sell for more.
- You want someone else to deal with buyers and delivery.
- You're comfortable with the commission in exchange for a potentially better price.
Some people use both: they sell bulky or time-sensitive items outright, and list higher-value pieces they can live without for a few weeks. If you're also moving, you can combine this with HomeLoop's moving service so that only the items you're keeping need to travel.
Tips for either option
- Take clear photos in daylight from several angles.
- Describe condition honestly, including any defects.
- Include dimensions, brand and approximate age.
- Clean the item before photos and before collection.
FAQ
What is the main difference between selling to HomeLoop and listing with HomeLoop?
When you sell, we buy the item from you, so it's fast and certain but usually at a lower price. When you list, you keep ownership, we find a buyer and handle delivery, and you're paid after delivery minus our commission.
How long does a listing stay on HomeLoop?
Listings run for a 30-day period. A sale during that time isn't guaranteed.
Why are listed items marked "Unchecked by our experts"?
Because our team hasn't inspected them. The condition shown is as described by the owner, and there is no warranty on unchecked items.
Will buyers see my phone number or address?
No. When you list with HomeLoop, your contact details are kept private and we handle communication with buyers.
